Enjoyed a snippet interview with sports reporter Jeff Ayliffe on Cape Talk radio. We talked briefly about the XC Open World Series and then focused closer to home - the up-coming inter club Gatskop on 23 and 24 October .  In promoting the event we invited members of the public to come out to the rural town of Porterville to watch us take to the skies and see why we love flying in Porterville so much.  Gatskops attract between 60 to 100 pilots so it is a great opportunity for the public to see lots of aerial action.

Tune into Cape Talk for the sports of radio casts.

2010 Cape XC Summer League

Overberg Paragliding Club hosts the Cape XC League for 2010 The Overberg Paragliding Club is once again hosting a Cross Country League for all pilots flying in the Western (and Southern ) Cape region of South Africa.

Who can claim scores for this league?

Anyone flying in the Western and Southern Cape region irrespective of place of residence.  So if you are from Gauteng and down here for the Gatskop and Winelands competitions - your submitted flights count towards this league.  If you then head off to the Wilderness for some coastal soaring, your flights there also count.  If you fly in Gauteng - it does not count.  If Gaynor, a Western Cape resident flies 200kms in Australia or De Aar, that flight does not count for this league.

How do I score?

The Game of Life

When in Spain I did not fly to my potential.  I am a better pilot than what I showed myself to be in that week and if I look at the big picture, I am a better pilot than what I showed myself to be this whole year.

In the past I have allowed my struggling form to crush my spirit, destroying the enjoyment of the moment.  In Spain I chose a different reaction to the situation.

2010 Piedrahita, Spain - XC Open Competition Conclusion
Scoring the competition

Late prize giving last night - one in the morning.  The final flight of the competition had many pilots beaming from ear to ear. But then the scoring began and .. oh so sad. Lots of  hard-done by emotions.

The reason: airspace violations.

The understanding of the rules as verbally given by Steve Ham, the organiser, had many people lose vital points and podium positions.  Such a sad way to end a very enjoyable competition. Hopefully everyone will remember the great 7 out of 8 days flying here in Spain.
