Being a FLYGIRL I am focusing here on Women in Flying and how we fair with one another on the international competition circuit.

Below I have listed the top 100 Ladies out of the 300+ competing women and after that, only our South African Lady Pilots and our respective positions.  I have also included links to Civl's website so you can access up-to-date Ladies and Overall Rankings etc whenever you wish.

NOTE: Out of approximately 4500 competing paraglider pilots world wide, only approximately 300 women are flying in competition paragliding.a
The top 5 SA Women in the International Rankings are Maryna Strydom, Tracey King, Khobi Bowden, Franci Roodt (listed with CIVL as Male) and Gaynor Schoeman.

Flygirl would like to see the level of competition flying amongst us women given a boost and to this end, I am hoping to put a Ladies Team together for the XC OPEN in Piedrahita, Spain 1-8 Sep 2007.  SA Lady pilots who have registered so far are Gaynor, Des and Khobi.  Maryna, our top Lady Pilot is back and will be registering for the XC Open as well.  This is great news as Piedrahita is one site Maryna flies particularly well and the rest of us look forward to benefiting from her knowledge and guidance in this event.  We will do a feature article on Maryna next week.

R30 000 per pilot is required.  This covers the airticket, retrieve transport, accommodation and competition entrance fee.  Branding of glider and clothing additional.  Feedback stories from each pilot together with photos will be posted daily on the flygirl website during the comp.
