So January was a strange month for me.... I took a month off from flying and towards the end I was so de-motivated I stopped posting altogether to FLYGIRL. But strangely, it was my highest hit month in almost a year. Why this is I am not sure. I always thought that it was the coverage of competitions that held the most interest for people as that is when FLYGIRL normally received the most hits. 2008 is going to be an unusual year for this Flygirl.... well actually, every year is unusual for me :-), but I am at a cross-roads where I have to make some really big decisions. Which means that FLYGIRL 2008 is going to be a little bit different to FLYGIRL 2007. It will not be all about flying and I am ok with that now. It also does me good to know that my amazing 87 year young Gran, the most awesome Flygirl I know, Muriel Van Der Leeuw, checks FLYGIRL regulary so I know someone will be logging on :-)) |
So, due to constraints, I will only be covering competitions that I am taking part in and I still need a sponsor to get me to those competitions. Without a sponsor to help me pursue my flying interests, my life is starting to take another path, one that I am excited about because it something new and different for me ... and well, that is why I have always liked Cross Country flying so much - the changing scenery and the newness of the experience :-) I have known passion with flying and I have also felt the tragedy of life without passion. In the absence of passion in my free flying, competition flying this past year gave me much needed focus so I could continue flying as I tried to rekindle that passion - with some success. But it is still oh so fragile. January, well January 2008 has been hard. I took not being able to compete in the Manilla, Australian XC-Open this month quite badly. Too hard in fact and coupled with some local drama, I lost all reason to fly and to continue updating FLYGIRL. But I am done feeling sorry for myself now and I am done with allowing others to try and dictate who they want me to be. Over the last few days I have come to remember how incredibly lucky I am to have the life that I do and all the options that are available to me. Thank you to those who kept coming back to FLYGIRL. Your interest in things other than what was on Paragliding Spotlight has been an eye-opener for me. And thank you very much to Andrea for her own FLYGIRLS website.
