South African Info is a new section for FLYGIRL I am starting by making available useful web addresses to overseas visitors who are making preparations for the international paragliding event coming up in De Aar in November 2008 - the www.xc-open.org |
www.southafrica.info is a fantastic website. It offers a very wide range of topics giving you a good, general, positive picture of what is happening in my country today. The total absence of any negative information regarding eg crime, Eskom power outages and how it impacts on visitors, and our latest shame, xenophobia, is conspicuous by its absence and so I will provide further information elsewhere in order to balance the picture and offer safety tips in other articles. Nonetheless, this website is still a gem, it is easy to navigate, updated regulary, has superb travel info links including a wide array of map systems and a mouthwatering Gallery section. |
A very good interactive map system - click on the image on the left. It even shows the little streets of the rural paragliding town we know and love - De Aar. Great for planning your holiday around South Africa, particularly for pin pointing the BnB locations and for getting an idea of what type of shops are available in the smaller towns as well as actvities. The best static maps I have found are those from www.sa-venues.com |
