I have started speaking to developers and people like Bradis involved in the recycling of building material and some are already following through with promises and coming to my 'house building party'. Developers sell off excess doors, 'I' beams, insulation etc as they near the end of their projects and with all the building going on in Hout Bay, I am focusing on keeping my treasure hunt as local as possible. It is all about energy saving afterall. Recycling is not as cheap as people might make out. It costs money to drive around, search and collect suitable materials, but most of all, it costs time away from income producing. My lifestyle of 6 months on, 6 months off in the film industry allows me the time to get my hands dirty during the winter. I have 6 months to collect suitable building material and get onto my property before the summer film season begins. Then after the summer, I will have enough money to continue with the building cycle.

| STONE
| | I received stone from two sources. In Llandudno the last of the open plots are being developed. The reason they are the last is because they are solid Table Mountain granite stone. I simply stopped on the road and asked if they were looking for a place to deliver the stone nearby and gave them my plot address in Hout Bay. Both parties gave me the stone free of charge - and they delivered it free of charge too. You cannot imagine how expensive this would have been if I wanted to buy in the stone. But they were contracted and paid to clear the site as fast as possible and having a dumpsite nearby suited everyone - including me. They are everywhere. Stop and chat to the foreman on the job and if helping you will help him to get the job done quicker, he is likely to assist you.
This site in Llandudno will cost the owner three million rand to blast, excavate and remove the stone. His alternative would be to build a house on stilts like the one next door.
