| Tonight is the Overberg Paragliding Clubs Annual General Meeting at the Kilarney Club House, Tableview. Your club needs you! It needs a new Committee, people who are not afraid to take the bull by the horns and do a bit of organisation and a lot of rabble rousing. People make the club what it is. What do you want your club to be like over the next year? It is in your hands. Remember, anyone can destroy something good. All it takes is for you to do nothing. The 'Mighty' Overberg Paragliding Club was one of the most inspirational and active clubs in South Africa. It was about flying. What do Overberg pilots do? We fly ... and we tell amazing stories about our adventures. Your time has come. Do it this year. Nuture your flying. Nuture your friends. Nurture your club. Message from Wayne Heuer below |
Dear Fellow Paragliders Paragliding brings about such a high level of satisfaction and I would even say contentment in my life and because I am just a regular guy much like the rest of you I figure that you would feel pretty much the same. Being a member of the Overberg Paragliding Club has allowed me to share my flying with all of you and vice versa. On many occasions I have been uplifted by the stories of your flights and this has enabled me to get over my periods of flying drought. Now, there seems to be a falling away from the Overberg Club and this is a particularly bad scenario, not just for me and the clubs sake, but for all of us paragliding pilots. The club is only as strong as its members and we need to all look at ourselves and ask what we can do to contribute to the success of the Overberg Paragliding Club. The AGM was supposed to take place last month but due to a lack of interest from the greater membership it was not held. |

There would seem to be some kind of stigma attached to serving on the committee and this is a sad moment in our history because our club has always been a flyers club. We need a fresh committee to take the reins and lead this club for the next year. Being a member of the committee is not difficult and only requires your commitment for a year. The older pilots have all done their duty and stood on the committee in the past and it is time for you our newer members and young blood to step up to the plate for the benefit of the Overberg Paragliding Club and all its members. So my ask as an outgoing committee member is that we have everyone attend the next club meeting and let’s put an end to this apathy that is holding us back from great things and lets build a strong club bases on the fact that we like to fly and that we are a self regulatory body and our own authority in the Western Cape. Our next club meeting (and AGM) will be held on 25 June 2008 at Killarney, so please show your support!
