German Open - Day 6 - Cancelled |

Oh dear. Germany's paragliding competition season has ended badly. No German Champion this year, as no task was possible today. The day was finally cancelled at 5pm and they needed two tasks at least. If we hold a task tomorrow then we will get a few points, but nothing much and some people are already leaving. There is talk of trying to have two tasks in one day. We shall see.
Earlier today. Curses. Strong wind on take off this morning. Russell said we should get in the air immediately if we wanted to fly at all. I took too long loading new GPS Waypoints and he came back a second time and said it was now or never and we should launch before window opened. We went to lower take off, I got ready but was somewhat unsure that I wanted to fly now. Some DHV2 gliders had launched before the window was open and they were pretty much gale hanging - without trims our tandem flies close to their speed, but the solo's have the abilty to push speedbar. Russell was taking wind readings and well, ja. Wind increased a little bit more and we both decided to sit it out knowing that we were unlikely to fly. Eventually we packed up. I took loads of photos of the few pilots who were comfortable with the strong conditions - a couple of them used the opportunity to do a bit of crowed wowing over take off. Task is postoned until afternoon. Around 5pm we will get SMS notification if its on. Tomorrow is the last day of the competition and I think a lot of people are starting to feel an anti-climax and are a little subdued. The German League has not had one single competition task this season and it is almost over. |
